How to get rid of bad breath? – Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
Problems with Bad Breath (Halitosis)
Are you ready to get rid of bad breath? We will tell you how to avoid bad breath, also known as halitosis:
Stop Smoking: Bad breath is one of the many reasons to quit smoking. Tobacco damages the gums and stains your teeth, in addition to increasing the risk of oral cancer. Anyone around you may notice the breath of tobacco! It’s better for all!
Scrap your tongue: the layer that forms naturally on the tongue can harbor foul smelling bacteria. To eliminate them, it is necessary to gently brush the tongue with the toothbrush or a tongue scraper, which is specially designed to remove this bacteria, food remains and dead cells that remain on the tongue.
Moisturize your mouth: Lack of saliva promotes tooth decay and causes breathing problems. If your mouth is dry, drink plenty of water during the day. Chewing sugarless gum or using an air humidifier overnight will help solve this problem.
Avoid bad-breath foods: Foods like onion and garlic are your main enemies. Unfortunately, brushing your teeth after eating them does not help as the volatile substances that cause the bad breath to travel to the lungs through the bloodstream, from where you breathe them out. The only way to avoid the problem is not to eat them, especially before occasions where you are specifically concerned about halitosis.
Rinse your mouth: antibacterial wash mouths add extra protection by reducing the plaque that causes bacteria.
Keep your gums healthy: Periodontal disease is a very common cause of bad breath. The bacteria concentrate in pockets at the base of the teeth, creating bad odors. If you suffer from gingivitis or periodontitis, the Periodontist will help you deal with this problem.

Everything you need to know about sensitive teeth!
Everything you need to know about sensitive teeth!
Teeth sensitivity is one of the most common dental problems just behind cavities. Eating hot or cold food or liquids can unleash a sharp pain on your teeth. While the reaction to some of these stimuli are normal, if you constantly have trouble with the sensitivity of your teeth, you might have a dental problem that your dentists need to address. But, why does it hurt in the first place? Well, the teeth have several layers that are made of different materials: the enamel (strongest outlayer with no no nerves), the dentin (the filling in your teeth that has nerves ending in it) and the pulp (the core that has nerves and blood vessels). For its part, the root of the tooth is made of minerals and dentin.
The dental enamel serve to protect the inner dentine and nerves from temperature changes. You may now understand why the sensitivity of your teeth increases if tooth enamel or dentine are damaged. There are two main reasons for this situation:
Dental wear: This is the second most common cause. Wear is a natural process but when is faster than normal and your enamel is lost, your body does not have enough natural mechanisms to protect the teeth. Therefore, the teeth are damaged very soon and you can suffer dental sensitivity. Some examples of tooth wear are bruxism, abrasion (due to aggressive brushing) or erosion (chemical wear such as drinking).
Cavities: Dental caries can also cause tooth hypersensitivity as it causes the destruction of dental enamel and exposes the dentine, causing acute pain when the tooth in question comes into contact with cold, heat, or some food.
You can also get some level of sensitivity after a dental whitening because the chemicals used would affect the enamel on the surface. Also, you will need to get great care of your dental crowns because when teeth are prepared for porcelain crowns, they are reduced to the dentine and need the porcelain cap for protection.

What are dental implants? – Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
What are dental implants? - Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
You might be wondering what are dental implants. Dental implants are one of the most preferred treatments to restore looks and functionality to your mouth. They are small titanium screws that are set into the bone in the gums (either upper and lower) that will function like the root of your missing teeth. On top of the dental implant the dentists will place an abutment (conector) that will serve as the base for a porcelain crown. All this process can be finished in two phases months apart.
Dental implants are usually made of titanium, but they can also be made out of Zirconia. Titanium is regarded as the best material for implants in the human body because it doesn’t oxide and breakdown like other metals. In the past, steel implants were attempted but these were rejected a lot by the immune system. Instead, the body doesn’t recognize the titanium as a “foreign” body as easily, increasing it’s success rate up to 90%. The surface of dental implants are also porous so the bone tissue and blood vessels around it can bond together. The healing process is called osseo-integration and in can take some months to finalize. This is why the crown is not placed until later, to give the implant a chance to root and anchor itself on the bone of the gums so it can withstand the pressure of chewing and biting.
Dental implants can be used to replace one tooth, make a bridge without damaging contiguos teeth or to restore the whole mouth with a bar with teeth or even mini implant dentures. We offer All-on-4, Snap in Dentures and a wide range of implant services.

Doctor German Arzate Live Implant Surgery Course Cancun - dental implant
Believe it or not, we will have yet another dental implant course coming up on August. We are still confirming the exact date but the tentative is to host it on the third week of August. We are very excited because we had only hosted 2 of these events per year, but the demand to learn from the dental implant experts is simply too great. Dozens of American dentists are waiting for their chance to come to Cancun and learn directly from professionals like Doctor Shankar Iyer and Doctor John Minichetti from the AAID (American Academy of Implant Dentistry), along with Doctor German Arzate, one of the most successfulleaders of dental tourism in Cancun.
Until then we will gather local people in need who require help to restore their mouths. While replacing a missing tooth is obviously not simply a cosmetic matter, these people have no other hope to have a functional set of teeth. We will do our best with love and dedication, like always, to provide that chance and improve their quality of life.

Take a frontal picture of your mouth smiling naturally.
Take a sideways picture of your mouth smiling from each side.
Take an inner picture of the lower and upper view of your mouth wide open so we can see the back of your teeth and gums easily.
Ask someone to help you take the photos. They can make sure the image looks clear from the right angles.
These pictures and any mouth x-ray you might already have will be the starting ground and we can start planning for a solution for you.

Water Irrigators complement your dental hygiene! – Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
Water Irrigator and dental health tips in Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
Dental hygiene is an extremely essential thing everyone should be aware of. Not taking care of your teeth will have catastrophic results later in life, affecting your health, social life and self-confidence. This is why we always recommend several other things besides the common “brush your teeth” routine. We have talked before about flossing, but today we are going to touch on the subject of water irrigators.
What is a water irrigator? This is a very simple machine that uses pressured water as the main medium to remove the plaque and food debris from the surface of teeth and gums. The bacteria feeding of the food debris can be the responsible for teeth cavities and gum disease so that’s why people should do their best to remove them. It is really helpful with patients that have braces, as it will get rid of the food stuck between the wires.
The initial cost is an investment in your dental health. You can even teach your children how to use it. There are even versions specially designed for children. Obviosuly, you should get one for each person and avoid using the same water irrigator between family members.

Alternative uses for toothpastes! How many do you know?
Alternative uses for toothpastes
Before we go into our list, we have ask ourselves, what are toothpastes made of in the first place? What we know as a toothpaste are actually a mix of abrasives that help getting rid off the the dental plaque from the surface of our teeth, as well as helping with bad breath and keeping our gums healthy. In small amounts, toothpaste is not harmful, but please, do not swallow a large amount of toothpaste (on a dare for example)! Toothpaste has a certain amount of flouride that can cause you adverse effects if you eat it.
Some of the most common abrasives used in toothpaste is aluminium hydroxide, calcium carbonate and other silicas, as well as flouride that helps on preventing cavities and the protection of enamel. In short, there are several things you can do with toothpastes thanks to their abrasive action. Let’s see some of the common:
One of the most popular alternative uses of toothpaste is as a cleaner for headlights on cars. Grab a rag or an old towel to scrub the paste all over the foggy headlights. You can even use a left over toothbrush if you want to make it quicker.
The second most well known use is as a defogger for googles. This is a great tip if you are going to do some snorkeling in Cancun.
Clean the grime under an iron. Yep! You can clean that strange stain on your iron with some non-gel toothpaste. Obviously, the iron needs to be disconnected and turned off before you start cleaning.
So… if you can scrub and clean an Iron… can you do the same with jewelry? The answer is yes! You can give a second life to your rings, bracelets and other gems.
A little bit of toothpaste can also help you out getting a strange smell off your hands.
For all these its recommended to use only non-gel toothpastes and a slightly wet towel or rag to clean it off.
Maybe after reading all these uses you are wondering… “Wow! Should I even put toothpaste in my mouth? Seems too strong!”. We will say this: always use regular toothpastes unless your dentist directs you otherwise, specially with whitening toothpastes. These are really abrasive and might end up damaging your teeth causing you sensitivity and more issues if they have not been prescribed by a dentist. A final tip for a better dental hygiene is to place the toothpaste directly on you teeth first instead of the toothbrush.
