What are teeth made of?

Maybe you would have thought that teeth are some sort of bone, but the truth is way more interesting. Teeth are way stronger than any other human bones, which might be the reason why archeologist find more teeth than any other part of the body in ancient excavations. Healthy teeth can be just that durable!

Each part of the tooth is made of different substances. For example, the outer layer is called Enamel, the hardest of all layers and is composed mostly of a white and rock-hard mineral called calcium phosphate. The enamel is supposed to withstand the pressure of chewing for your entire life, but this doesn’t mean it is impervious. The enamel can be cracked by blunt trauma or can be breakdown by the bacteria’s acid from eating food debris on the tooth surface (caries and cavities!). The enamel cannot regenerate itself like bones, so it requires the intervention of a dentist.

The second layer of the tooth is the dentin. The dentin is made out of a combination of living cells that secrete a hard mineral substance. The dentin is not as hard as the enamel and even the color can go from cream to light yellow. Is very important that you get in immediate contact with your dentist if you start to notice a marked difference in color on your teeth, specially on molars and premolars (white edges with a yellow softer center). There are ways for the dentine to partially regenerate itself, but you need to address bacterial infections and other protection first with the help of a dentist.

The inner most layer of the tooth is called the pulp, which consist of nerves and blood vessels that connect to the jaw bone. This is the most delicate of all part of the tooth. If anything starts reaching the pulp, the pain will let you know.

Here at our dental clinic in Cancun, we usually specialize on advanced implant and denture treatments, but we can also handle general dentistry procedures without a problem. Give us a call for more information about affordable fillings, cleanings and whitening. How to get the best All-on-4 and smile again?

Whether you’ve planned to get All-on-4 in Cancun or someplace else, you should follow certain guidelines before you make the ultimate decision for your dental care. One of the main things to bear in mind is the fact that sometimes low ethic dental practitioners will give you a treatment called «All-on-4», however in truth this is merely a knock off. We will tell about this below, but first we should begin with the most important factor:

  • Experience: A dental practitioner who works with All-on-4 will need to have great experience under his arm. And we mean many years of experience with a myriad of dental implants. For instance, Doctor German Arzate has twenty years of experience using all types of dental implants for complete smile makeovers.
  • Qualifications: Any dental professional seeking to perform this All-on-4 protocol must have a Nobel Biocare recognition. You would like to know, Doctor German Arzate has received training from the creator of All-on-4, at Malo Clinic. There are incredibly few dental practitioners that count themselves among this group.
  • Implants: The implants for All on 4 treatment must be Nobel Biocare. There is absolutely no question about any of it. Before you agree to doing the treatment, ask for confirmation that the dentists you have chosen are using Nobel Biocare original implants. All-on-4 has one of the best success rates, but only when using Nobel Biocare dental implants. Some dentists try to cut edges with cheaper brands so be careful! We use original titanium Nobel Biocare implants when doing All-on-4 in Cancun.
  • Price: Because of the required expertise of the doctor, the advanced induction and the use of the best materials for All on 4, this treatment can be extremely expensive in USA and Canada. The usual costs range around $25,000 to $30,000 just for ONE arch (upper or lower teeth replacement)… so you could be easily having to pay $60,000 USD in USA. Luckily for you, you can get All-on-4 in Cancun for a fraction of that price. Check here for our current prices.

How to fix big gaps between your teeth?

For a lot of people teeth crowding is a problem but also the opposite can be a real aesthetic issue. Some of the reasons why we have gaps between the teeth can be the following:

  • Suction or thrust of the tongue against the teeth: When the tongue is interposed or pushed against the teeth for a long period of time can end up shifting and separating them. This may be due to having a larger than normal tongue (macroglossia) or a nervous habit that certain people have.
  • Disproportion between the size of the maxillary bone and the teeth: When the maxilla has developed in excess, resulting in area too large for them, they can’t simply occupy all the given space.

Veneers (and sometimes crowns) can be the solution of choice when we find a disproportion between the size of the maxillary bone and the teeth. It is also used when the diastema (space between teeth) is due to the suction or thrust of the tongue against them. The function of the veneers in these cases is to fill and disguise the empty spaces. We also have the advantage that the veneers not only correct the separation of them, but also can end with aesthetic problems such as position, shape or color.
The other option it to get a treatments with orthodontics to relocate them on the correct position. This process obviously takes more time because the dentist needs to make adjustments slowly while your teeth move from the bone every month or so. You will also be required to wear a retainer after your braces are taken off.

sinus lift process with dental implants in cancun
One of the most common ways our patients contact us is by sending us their mouth photos, showing the decay or missing teeth and asking us if they are candidates for dental implants. Our doctor can give you a pre-evaluation depending on what they see, and it helps a lot when patients send us panoramic x-rays to start looking at the options available. In the end, we must remind all our patients that a clinical evaluation needs to be performed on site by our doctors to confirm the treatment plan. This is important because there might be one or two complications the photos or x-rays didn’t show at first glance. On the case of patients with missing teeth or advanced age, there is one particular problem that can happen and its the need of a sinus lift.

What is a sinus lift?

Sinus lift and Dental Implants in Cancun

A sinus lift is a procedure where the doctor fills up part of the cavity under the sinus membrane with bone material to reinforce the are for the placing of dental implants. This happens because when there is no stimulation in the bone it loses density on a process called bone resorption. It starts «eroding» and expanding the sinus area. Implants should not be placed in an area that is trespassing the bone all the way to the sinus. For this reason, a sinus lift might be necessary. The doctor will make an incision to get to the sinus membrane, lift it a little like a blanket and fill the space with bone material that will fuse with the rest of the bone around it and allow the dental implant to be set. There are several factors that can exacerbate the expansion of the sinus area, like age and osteoporosis.

Are there any complications with dental implants? - Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

There is very little chance that dental implants will fail after their placement, in fact, the success rate is close to 95%. Even so, as in any treatment, complications can occur, usually related to persistent anesthesia in the adjacent nerves or if there was penetration of the maxillary sinuses and the nasal cavity.

These complications are not frequent as long as a specialist is the one who places the implants. But the most important thing is to perform a previous medical evaluation, to make sure that dental implants are the best option depending on your overall health and medical conditions. Currently, although there is more information on this subject, there are misconceptions that most people believe when choosing dental implant treatment, the most common are:

  • That dental implants require less care than natural teeth.
  • That implant treatment is appropriate for all patients who have lost teeth.
  • That dental implants last longer than natural teeth and that there are no risks or complications in the treatment with implants.
  • You can eat whatever you like no matter if it’s too hard.

These ideas could lead to problems and ultimately losing your dental implant. You should still be careful when eating hard foods… remember, you have already lost a tooth. Even with a dental implant you should be cautious to avoid fissuring the crown.

Regarding general health, there are relative contraindications that it is important to consider before carrying out the treatment, it is important to proceed with caution with patients who have suffered a heart attack, suffer from angina, patients undergoing anticoagulant treatments, patients with renal insufficiency , arthritis, rheumatism, anemia, lupus, respiratory failure, osteoporosis and with patients suffering from psychiatric diseases.

As in any treatment, there are risk factors that can hinder the success of dental implants. For example, survivors of cancer need to be very careful if they got radiation therapy in the area of the head or mouth as the success rate will be somewhat lower, the same happens with diabetic patients. In patients with heart disease, an adequate and detailed clinical history should be made before starting treatment. And finally, as we all know, smoking is harmful in all aspects, so it is expected that smoking with dental implants, especially during the process of osseointegration, will increase the risk of failure of dental implant treatment.

Despite sensationalist media, Cancun remains the top vacation spot for Americans!

According to Airlines Reporting Corp, Americans keep flying to Cancun in spite of a wave of safety concern warnings for this vacation season. The second place in that list has become Orlando because of it’s park and attractions, leaving New York in the third place of the most booked destinations by Americans. This is telling as it shows the sensationalist media hasn’t dissuaded most people from traveling and having a great time in this Caribbean Paradise.

Cancun is one of the most popular vacation spots in the world, and is specially popular with Americans as it stands only at 2 hours away from Florida, though there are many direct flights from other parts of the States. Cancun receives over 3 million people per year, and while crime rate has increased in the downtown, touristic areas like the Hotel Zone are incredibly safe for visitors.

Remember that the goal of sensationalist media is to keep you stressed and alert… make you feel scared so you have the need to stay informed for your safety, information that they are just so happy to provide to you, with the facts they have specially picked to keep eliciting this response. Even then, thousands of people break through that conditioning and seek what really makes them happy. For some people is just traveling and relaxing in the beach, but for our patients, it’s the ability of smiling again. Our dentists in Cancun are ready to help you out with any dental problem you may have. We are located in a popular shopping mall just 5 minutes from the Hotel Zone’s entrance, surrounded by department stores and close to cinemas. You won’t have to worry about anything!

Combining dental implants and cosmetic dentistry for better results!

Right now we are having special deals for dental implants and also for crowns and veneers. This is a great alternative to get your smile makeover for less than you would pay in USA or Canada. Our dentists in Cancun can do these type of combined treatments to help you restore the look and functionality of your smile. We are experts in both implant dentistry and aesthetics for smile design. Many other dentists are just skilled on one or the other.

Speaking about dental implants, one of the biggest advice that we can give you is that if you choose someone to place your dental implant, you need to find out that the doctor not only places the implant, but he also rehabilitate it. The problem with the bone is it’s not always in the right condition, and you are gonna find a doctor that is gonna place the implant and then when they try to do the tooth, they don’t know anything about cosmetics.

Why am I telling you that? Because you don’t know how many cases you’ll find of patients which they have ugly teeth with dental implants, because it was done by two separate persons. Probably you are gonna say “well, my doctor does both…” Good for you! Because, if you are searching to have a beautiful solution, the best advice is to find a doctor that places the implant and do the rehabilitation. Why is that? Is because you are gonna have a more integral solution to your problem.

Get a Dental Diagnosis with the experts in Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry

One of the first things you need to do to get your smile makeover is get a good dental diagnosis. Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry has an amazing team of dentists that have years of experience with implant dentistry and smile design, offering the right affordable dental treatments to restore your mouth. The process to diagnose starts by contacting us through our page and sending your x-rays and mouth photos as we have said before. Why should you choose to get an evaluation with us?

It is important to emphasize that one third of what a dentist learns to give a good diagnosis is attributed to the university; the other third is attributed to experience and desire to excel and the last is the type of tools he uses for the diagnosis. Some dentists only superficially examine the mouth, check the teeth and only fix the problems that can be seen; However, doctors who want to go further, will do a thorough examination and will also dedicate themselves to research, using in this way many of the cases that they have treated before as references, so that patients contribute to their professional growth by recognizing similar or equal conditions.

If a patient puts their trust and health in a doctor’s hands is very important to analyze the experience they have, and in this present, where you can access the doctor’s data, which go beyond the written- the patient can know thoroughly their person, clinic, facilities, technology and preparation. With all the above, the patient can realize the experience of the dentist through their references, their success stories, and if they strive every day to give the best service. In the end, the patient evaluates whether the doctor will provide peace of mind and whether his diagnosis will be complete and comprehensive. We have helped over 5000 patients and placed thousands of dental implants, many whom have left reviews of Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry. Our experience is one of a kind.

I first came to the clinic two years ago because, I didn’t have anything major wrong with my teeth but, they’re getting old and they were crooked, they were chipping, they were wearing away, they were discolored and, I have several friends that have come to the clinic here before and they were so happy!

Okay, my name is Mary L. I’m from Duluth, Minnesota, we left yesterday to come down to Cancun, and we left in the middle of a snowstorm, it was snowing and kind of sleeting and everything, and we arrived in beautiful Cancun to, I think 88º degrees yesterday, so that was wonderful!

Two summers, or two springs ago, I came here and I had all my teeth crowned, I was so happy. They did do it fairly quickly, though and so that first year I had a couple of problems that I needed corrected, so I came last year and they took care of everything, they did a beautiful job, everything was covered under the warranty, there was no cost to me and I’ve just been so happy.

This year I’m here only to have my teeth cleaned, so I don’t have any problems, I don’t have any pain, I… They’re perfect and I get so many compliments on them. It’s just been a pleasure being here at this dental clinic here and the staff, if it wasn’t for the staff I don’t know if I would be here today but they’re wonderful! And I’m gonna come here every spring to see the staff, have my teeth cleaned or have anything done I need to have done but Dr. German, Dr. Olivia, Dr. Victoria, Dr. Jesus were all here when I started. They started out with me, they would contact me all the time back home in Minnesota and they have made this just a pleasure for me, they’re wonderful, they’re kind, they’re gente and I feel like we’ve become friends, yes!

Now, like I said I just got here yesterday so I get a full week of enjoying my vacation in beautiful Cancun!

My father wear dentures, my mother wore… So it’s a strong family history about,

Now it’s my time.

So, I started researching two years ago, I have a denture… and I’m not comfortable with it, it’s very uncomfortable.

I knocked it down to like three different places and then I found June Penny and Paola and Dr. Arzate and then that sealed the deal, just knowing… how involved you guys are with the patient’s decisión on how to, you know?
