Doctor Cesar – wonderful. Doctor Wendy – wonderful. This clinic is fabulous! Upfront about prices. High quality, reasonable prices and friendly competent staff. This is my fifth time here. Highly recommended!

How to brush your teeth correctly – Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
How to brush your teeth - Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
While we can all agree that brushing your teeth is a basic hygiene habit, that doesn’t mean there aren’t people who have been brushing their teeth in the wrong way for most of their lives. Brushing is the first line of defense against many of the problems we have, but we can assume we have been doing it correctly all this time. We strongly suggest you to read this helpful information to confirm if your technique is flawless or perhaps you need to make a couple of improvements on your dental cleaning routine.
To start with we must remind you that you should brush your teeth at least two times a day (after breakfast and before going to sleep), but ideally it should be once after every main meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Brushing more than this daily can actually cause adverse effects for your teeth and gums. The constant rubbing and scrubbing can damage your gums and provoke them to recede, exposing the roots of the teeth. The roots of the teeth have no extra protection against acids like the top of the teeth so they have propensity for cavities . Your toothbrush should have soft or medium bristles, avoiding hard ones that can hurt you.
It is recommended to brush for at least 2 minutes, making sure to get every side of every tooth. There are many people that only brush the front of their teeth, but this it not enough! You need to make sure to clean the inner/back side too.
Start from the back teeth first, doing small circles on the sides to remove plaque build up. The toothbrush should be on a slightly angled position (45°). Avoid doing strong back and forth motions on the side of the teeth because this can cut the gums! Instead use the back and forth motions when cleaning the top of the molars and pre-molars. You should keep doing small circles as you move to your front teeth. As we mentioned above, the whole process should take you about 2 minutes.
It is highly recommended to use floss at least once a day, just BEFORE brushing after dinner. This will help dislodge and expose any food particles still trapped so the toothbrush can get rid of them easily. Finally, make sure to brush your tongue too!
If you come for an appointment to our dental clinic in Cancun, you can ask the dentist any other additional questions about the proper way to clean dentures, dental implants and other dental prosthetics. Even if we brush everyday, we must get a dental cleaning once a year to get rid of plaque on hard to reach places…. which make your vacation in Cancun the perfect opportunity to pay us a visit!
Dental Care through history: The first toothbrush!
Ancient toothbrush history
For many, a toothbrush is something they cannot live without, but have you ever wondered how people in the past took care of their teeth without them? Is not like cavities and gum disease are just recently affecting human mouths. We talked here about one of the first root canal procedures done by people almost over 14,000 years ago, with the help tiny stone needles. So what about the every day cleaning of teeth? One of the most easy and common ways to keep the bigger food debris off the teeth would have been using wooden or stone toothpicks. Sadly, this wouldn’t have helped to fight the plaque still building up on the surface of the teeth. We can only assume people would have used only their finger to clean visible bits of food.
The ancient Babylonians and Egyptians developed a good alternative using twigs with a frayed soft ends to work like brushes. Twigs from aromatic bushes were preferred. This could be regarded as the very first toothbrush. People would also make concoctions with herbs to make mouthwash to combat bad breath.
Sadly, the frayed stick toothbrush didn’t take a hold on the habits of the rest of the world. Twigs would brake and rot so it wasn’t always an option. There was a need for something more lasting. Mean while, in Asia, the Chinese developed a toothbrush made with hard bristles and some of them were brought to the west by European travelers and merchants, but it would take a while before it became a common sight. People would still clean their teeth with toothpicks and maybe use a cloth to rub off plaque from the surface of the teeth. Coincidentally, is in this era when barbers started to branch off and specialize to study oral health, as they had been pretty much the only people allowed to offer teeth extraction services. By 1600 these first dentists started to promote the use of toothbrushes as first line of defense against cavities and other maladies of the mouth.
The first “modern” toothbrush as we know it, was manufactured in mass by William Addis, who made a fortune out of it and since then it has become an object essential for everyday life. In fact, because toothbrushes are such a basic tool for people’s health around the world, it was regarded as one of the most important inventions in history. So make sure you don’t forget to floss your teeth at least twice a day!

We are still surprised by the results of the 5th Live Implant Surgery Course in Cancun hosted by our clinic last week. The previous course had been in March and when he heard the next one would be on May we were actually more than a little surprised. We are used to a 6 month waiting between courses so hearing this made us up perk up in confusion asking “Did we just misheard?”. Well, it seems we did such a great job on all the other implant courses that the AAID simply had to make an additional event for all the people that couldn’t make it on March (it was already sold out by December 2015!). We can’t deny were impressed and kind of proud of ourselves.
If you liked our page on Facebook you might had seen the publications all over that week. This time we made an extra effort to upload the pics and vids as we got them, so you could see the doctors learning from Doctor Shankar Iyer and Doctor German Arzate. We placed over 100 dental implants over the course of 3 days. The american doctors and our staff were exhausted at the end but completely blown away by all they learned.
We got several unique cases, offering the doctors the opportunity to hone their dental implant skills with sinus lifts, ridge expansions, all on 6, etc, and Doctor Shankar Iyer was extremely happy with this variety and praised over and over again the professionalism of our staff and the modern facilities we provided. Doctor Shankar Iyer is the President of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, an eminence on the field and we must say it was a great honor and a pleasure to work along side him! Here’s a video of him talking about the experience.
We are also happy to announce we will have another course, this time on August on this year. We are still waiting for confirmation on the exact date, but you can bet it will be an amazing event. We are hoping this time we have the presence of our dear friend Doctor John Minichetti, Director of the Dental Implant Training Center, who is also known as the “Implant Daddy” among the dental industry, he’s. It would be amazing to have Dr. Shankar Iyer, Dr. John Minichetti and Dr. German Arzate, the experts of implant dentistry, working together at the same time.

We are always happy to see old faces coming back to Cancun. In this occasion was Larry visited us for the second time and we were thrilled to see him again. He came for Michigan and was more than ready to have a great dental vacation in Cancun. He came with his wife. He went to enjoy the beach while he was waiting to the lab to finish his dental work. With his previous experience he had a pretty good idea of what to expect and how to spend his time in Cancun. Many patients are unsure on what they can actually do while they come to our clinic. For most of them, they are in and out in less than an hour, unless they require some surgery for dental implants.
We encourage our patients to have fun while they are here. We can suggest some things to do in Cancun when you start planning your visit so make sure to ask our dental planners about it. They might give you the perfect activity depending on your preferences. After all, Cancun has something for everyone… we have wonderful beaches to walk, amazing all inclusive resorts, water-parks for families, water-sports, fishing, golfing, Mayan archaeological sites and even extreme adventure tours in the jungle. It all depends on what you like best.
Larry left us a small review praising Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry:
(The clinic was) very nice, clean and well managed. The doctors were very thorough. The 1st time I saved $7,500 USD, this time saved $2000. Staff is excellent – fun + smiles!
