What to eat after a dental implant surgery?

One of the things that we get asked the most by our patients is what they should eat after a dental implant surgery. This is a very good question. Unless you had a fixed implant bridge like All-on-4 or a removable implant denture like Snap in Dentures that have an immediate load, you will likely get one or two implants placed with exposed sutures in the gum. When we place regular implants, the flaps of the gums are opened to place the “screw” in the gum and then closed back again until the bone is healed. 

 

For this reason, you have to eat a soft diet to be able to take care of the area where the dental implants were placed, since you have to prevent food from getting stuck in the sutures. This will also depend on the pain threshold of each patient and it will also depend a lot on the type of dental implant surgery and the number of implants that have been placed since this will determine how much discomfort the patient has.

 

This will usually take about a week of soft foods like soups, puree, and creams. You must avoid the use of straws as the sucking action could affect the sutures. Also, avoid rice and other seed-like foods, as well as irritants like coffee, chocolate and spicy food. We want you to have the best experience while recovering after your dental implant surgery!

Full mouth restoration with All-on-4 or All-on-6 dental implants

 

We receive a lot of questions about the difference about the All-on-4 and the All-on-6. What could be the best solution for you? Well, first of all, to perform these procedures you need to be a very skilled doctor because the placement of the All-on-4 implants is everything! They need to be set two in the front and two implants with inclination to the side. The all-on-6 protocol it’s different because you place 6 implants in a straight way. This technique you don’t do it with immediate load, this technique you do immediate load. If someone is telling that they do the All-on-4 in two stages is because they don’t know the right protocol. The right protocol is that you can perform those implants and you can do immediate load at once. Now, on all-on-6 you place the 6 implants and you wait from 3 to 6 months for the bone to heal then, afterwards, you are ready to perform the bar.

 

Which of those techniques is best for you? Well, it will depend on the height of the bone, you can’t do long implants in the posterior areas due to the inferior alveolar nerve. You don’t wanna touch the nerve so that’s why you usually use short implants.  In the end, they are different techniques, but it will depend on your doctor’s skills and a thorough evaluation. Both techniques are good and both techniques work very well.

Hi, my name is Deb Nelson, I am from Charlotte, North Carolina.

When I went to the dentist in the United States it cost me a small fortune; took me 10 years I believe to pay off the initial medical and dental work that was done, so at my age, I’ve gone through several sets of crowns in the normal replacement, and I was growing weary at the price I was paying in the United States. I started doing some research, and I found New Look Dental, at the time, they were called Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry, I believe, and I reach out to them and asked if they could give me some advice remotely before I came to Cancun.

Everyone was so gracious and so inviting, they were very knowledgeable, they know exactly what I was talking about, with the extent of damage to I had been done to my facial reconstruction, to the bone… quality of bone they had left to work with, all the history of my different sets of crowns. And so I came to Cancun, for two weeks, and in two weeks I had a wonderful vacation, but in two weeks I met Dr Julian. Some of his assistants who were actually brand new dentists.

I became the subject of a lot of lessons, teaching because the damage was so extensive underneath. Dr Julian has been with me now for 9 years, I’ve coming to Cancun for my dentist for 9 years. The folks in the United States hear this all the time. If you will give me a temporary fix, I’m going to my dentist who is in Cancun. So, Dr Julian has been with me since the very beginning, I love the staff here, they know me by first name, I know them by first name. I have send so many of my friends here, I can’t get my family yet, but, so many of my friends have come down and taken the opportunity to basically pay for a vacation with the savings along.

I have found that the dental work that I’m doing now, the extensiveness of whether is an implant, or a crown replacement, I’m finding it to be about one third the cost of what my dentist will charge in Charlotte, North Carolina, so if you’re from New Jersey or New York, I think you better start booking a flight because the work here is warrantied, the dentist here are highly highly knowledgeable, very well trained.

The staff is gracious, helpful, don’t worry about the language barrier, you do not have to speak Spanish, although they will teach you if you want. So, I encourage anyone to come here if you would like to know the needy greedy on the warranty, I did have a couple of crowns one time that I just didn’t like the way they felt, about six months really, after I have gotten back to the States.

I was flossing and I say, you know, I don’t like the way this feels, and they say, please, come back, we want you to like the way it feel, and I had my crown replaced for zero dollars, there is no a dentist that I know anywhere, no in North Carolina and I’m pretty sure that nowhere in the US who is going to say six months after I get a set of crown that I can actually contact and say there is something that I don’t like about this. It was remedied and I went back to the states with another vacation and I’ve been the happiest patient even since. So I highly recommend, Dr Julian,  had done some work with me as well, the staff at Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry and New Look Dental has been without a doubt the best experience in my dental story.

Are Alzheimer and Gum disease related? Study says YES.

 

That’s right, the possibility that Alzheimer and gum disease might be linked has been studied for years and there is a huge relationship between both conditions. Patients who used not to take care of their oral hygiene have suffered or suffer from Alzheimer.

First, it starts as gingivitis, which is a disease of the gums. It occurs when there is no brushing, flossing or mouthwash. Subsequently, dental plaque appears, that is, solidified food remains between the teeth and also under the gums. This produces irritation, the gums swell and turn red.

Gingivitis that is not treated will become periodontitis; which is an extreme case of dental disease. The gums bleed, become inflamed, and the teeth move. Finally, it ends in tooth loss.

But periodontitis has many side effects in addition to losing teeth because it appears that when the gum and bone get infected that bacteria might easily travel to the brain through the blood.

Only a small percent of the human population is allergic to the metal of dental implants, titanium. So when they tell us: “Am I going to be allergic to dental implants?” it’s difficult to tell right away through phone. We will look at your medical history and review your case to make sure you are a candidate for procedures with mini implants and dental implants. Just remember that titanium is the most compatible with the human body. It’s the same material used for screws when you break a bone or need a hip replacement, etc.

Normally, implants don’t fail and what patients might experience is the bone is rejecting the implant. This doesn’t mean the implant is wrong or that the patient it’s allergic, just that the body simply didn’t want this external object on inside the tissue. It can happen with any type of medical procedure, there’s always a chance.
