Cancun just turned 48 years old! Come to discover this Caribbean paradise!
Cancun just turned 48 years old! Come to discover this Caribbean paradise!
The city of Cancun just turned 48 years old! This beautiful Caribbean paradise has been growing to offer the best vacation experience for all visitors. With a population of almost 800,000 people it surpasses in size US cities like Seattle, Denver and Washington, DC. When the first settlers came to create this tourist spot in the 70’s, two distinctive areas were established: downtown and the Hotel Zone. The Hotel Zone is a thing long strip of a island separating the Nichupte Lagoon and the Caribbean sea, connected to main land by two bridges on each extreme. Here is where you will find most of the night life, entertainment and some of the best high end stores. As it happens, our dental clinic is located just at 5 minutes from the entrance of the hotel zone, in one of the largest shopping malls in the city, Malecon Americas Shopping Mall. The combination of natural beauty, white sand beaches and modernity have made Cancun the crown jewel of tourism in Mexico. Cancun has received 3 million visitors a year, 300,000 which are Americans.
Since the beginning, the people of Cancun care a great deal about the ecosystem. We know nature is one of our greatest treasures and the reason why thousands of people come to visit us from around the world. This is why there are plenty of protected areas not far from the city and we focus a great deal on eco-friendly activities. You will find plenty of tour options to go out on a jungle tour with zip lines, ATVs, as well as a plethora of ecological parks like Xel-ha, Xcaret, Xenxes, etc.
In Cancun, you will enjoy all the modern services and the only thing you won’t find is a subway as the land in the area is not right for these types of projects. The Peninsula of Yucatan is full of cenotes and underground rivers, covered by wetlands, dense jungle and mangle protecting the coasts from natural erosion.
Finding what to eat in Cancun might seem challenging at first during your first time on your vacation. Dental tourism in Mexico has increased in popularity and also the amount of American and Canadian patients wondering what can they try after their treatment is done.
Cancun has a huge huge advantage over many other places in Mexico because, believe it or not, it is the melting pot of Mexico! The city it self only has 40 or so years since it was founded so people from all around the country came here to settle. These settlers also brought with them their favorite foods and recipes… making it very easy to find most of any type of traditional Mexican food. Obviously, the original regional food of the Península of Yucatan is the king in its presence. There are also a huge number of international restaurants and also many American restaurants.
Of the things we can suggest about what to eat in Cancun are, of course, tacos. You can never go wrong with tacos. If you want to enjoy a local dish, ask for cochinita pibil… slow roasted and marinated shredded pork in achiote salsa, best eaten with pickled red onions and beans. Word of advice, if you are counting calories, forget about them and just try these. Also, just in general, beware of any salsa. Make this your rule of thumb. Even if they say it’s not spicy, your best bet is to try one, and just ONE drop of a salsa first… this is because this region of Mexico is completely in love with some of the spiciest chiles, called Habanero. Try it first and you should be fine.
Some people are worried about what to eat in Cancun because they might believe there are unsanitary concerns, but restaurants here are required to follow hygiene codes. Perhaps the main thing to look out for is the spices and fiber used on these dishes. Local food is incredibly rich in spices and the use of chile permeates most local foods.

As you remember, we moved a few months back from our old location to a larger area within the same shopping mall. We would like to remind everyone the details about where to find our dental clinic in Cancun with this helpful post.
We are located in the entrance of Las Americas Shopping Mall, the biggest mall in Cancun. In fact, it consists of two main areas joined together: the high-end “Malecon Americas” and the more casual “Las Americas”.
The easiest way to get there is to ask a cab to drop you at the Malecon Americas entrance, they all know this place, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting there. Even then, the first visit to our clinic, you can ask for a pick up at the airport or from our hotel so you get there without a hassle. Once here you will see a stair, an escalator and an elevator to the right. Going up there you will see our clinic’s windows above the bank. The entrance is just by the second set of escalators over there. We have a big molar at the entrance so there’s no way to miss it!
If you have rented a car in Cancun, the mall has a parking lot you can access from the Malecon Americas motor lobby that charges by the hour. If the escalators are being given maintenance and are turned off, or if you have mobility issues, there’s also a second elevator right by the exit of the parking lot, close to the accesible parking spaces. Remember, if you have any trouble getting here, you can always get in touch with your dental planner or our reception desk. They will help you with additional directions.

Most of the fishing boats offer either private or shared fishing trips with other tourists and other basic fishing equipment. If you are staying at a resort you should ask at the reception desk for info about this, they usually have a handy list of tour providers. Our dental planners can also help you out to find someone who offers a good fishing tour. Make sure you have a clear idea of what’s included in your fishing trip, how long it will take and what type of fish you are expected to find.
Another thing to do during your dental vacation in Cancun is to go on a boat to party and eat in Isla Mujeres. You will find small boats, ideal for family trips or larger ferry-like boats where you can enjoy the “Fiesta” with many other tourists. Some of these tours also include snorkeling. Make sure to ask our dentists if your treatment allows you to do snorkel or diving beforehand (for example, patients with Sinus Lifts should not dive or snorkel). Where to eat in Cancun during your dental vacation?
Where to eat in Cancun during your dental vacation?
One of the big questions we get when our patients come for a smile makeover is where and what they can eat while they wait for their dental work to get done (crowns, veneers, dental implants, All-on-4 or Snap in Dentures). Luckily for them, Cancun is an international destination that has all kinds of foods from all over world! Depending on the treatment you got done, there might be some restrictions to your diet but overall you should be able
Here in the Malecón Americas Shopping where we are located you will find several restaurants like Sirloin Stockade, Hooters, Johnny Rockets, McDonald, Starbucks, for the well known American menus. Comix, is a restaurant chain themed on all sort of media heroes (comics, video games, movies, tv series). There’s also an excellent Sushi place across Comix and right around the corner you can find Cheesters (pastas), La Cantinita and Pozocalli (Mexican food). The shopping mall obviously also has a foodcourt with Subway, Burger King and several other options.
Speaking of food courts, or something along the lines… there has been a new trend lately in Cancun. Food trucks have become extremely popular in the city, giving us a twist to the usual street food in Cancun. Several food trucks owners have come together on a couple of great spots and established an open area with great music and ambiance. You will find “The Deck” a few minutes away from the Hotel Zone, right beside Plaza Canaima on Kabah Avenue. The other one is located on Nichupte Avenue, right beside Plaza Infinity. These Food Trucks are usually open for dinner at 7 pm and the place is packed by 9, so make sure to plan ahead if you wish to bring a rental to get a parking spot or come here on a taxi cab.
We are sure that there is definitely something you would love in any of these delicious options during your dental vacation in Cancun! They just got their new teeth (or are waiting for them), so what better way to spend the time than to enjoy what this paradise offers? There are several family run hotels and bed and breakfast hostels available close to the beach. Here you will also find fishing and snorkeling tours if you are interested. While you are there make sure to eat their delicious sea food from one of the beach front restaurants like a shrimp ceviche or even fish tacos with chips!
