Answers about dental implants, tooth pain, fillings and more!
Affordable dental cleaning in cancun
Today we will answer some of the questions we have gotten lately about dental implants, smoking, tooth pain and fillings. Remember you are free to contact us through our Facebook page for questions or through our live chat in the corner.
Can I eat after a filling?
You should be able to eat after a filling without much problem. The filling should be well bonded to the surface of the tooth. Even then, as a big suggestion, you should avoid chewy and sticky foods like gum and also avoid chewing hard foods like candy or even ice. This is dissuaded even for natural teeth so you shouldn’t risk it.
Can smoking weaken my teeth?
Smoking can be a huge problem for your teeth and your gums. Smoking increases the risk of gum recession and periodontal disease. The smoke can interfere with the amount blood flow and oxygen on your bone, technically “drowning it” and making it susceptible for bacterial infections. This can certainly accelerate bone loss, allowing the tooth to shift in place and even fall. We highly suggest all our patients to stop smoking to keep a healthy mouth.
My teeth and jaw hurt in the morning. Could it be a cavity?
It could be a cavity. On the other hand, if your pain subsides for a while and mostly only appears when you wake up it could be bruxism instead. Bruxism is the condition of teeth clenching (either conscious or unconscious). In either case, you should pay a visit to your dentist to confirm. Bruxism can be treated easily depending of the cause
What are the dental implant brands you use on your dental clinic in Cancun?
It’s good that you’ve asked! We get this question a lot. Some people assume that because we are located in Mexico we will use “generic” dental implant brands but that’s far from the truth. We use dental implants from a wide variety of international brands, the same your dentist in USA or Canada would use like: Nobel Biocare, Zimmer, Straumann, Intra-lock system, MIS and Neodent. We will give you the code number of each of your implants for future reference, and try our best to use model that are universally compatible as some doctors in other parts of the world might use just one brand. If you are looking for a particular type of dental implant, call us toll free 1-800-565-1424 or hit us on the live web chat in the corner of the page to talk with one of our dental planners.

British Happy Patient found affordable dental crowns!
England patient got affordable dental crown in Cancun
For this week’s happy patient we will share with you Mustapha’s experience while getting a dental crowns in Cancun. He came all the way from England! We have had several patients from the United Kingdom this month and it has been an amazing surprise as most of our patients come from USA and Canada. This wouldn’t be the first time a we have a British patient, but we are just happy because it means word is spreading about our good work even beyond our own continent. How exciting!
It was a real privilege to have Musthapha here with us for his dental work. We have heard UK has some basic dental insurance but it usually doesn’t cover the most important dental procedures so people are forced to look for more affordable dental treatments abroad. We can guess we will have more patients like him as winter approaches because we will be the most attractive option to spend their winter vacation in a tropical paradise. Whether they need root canals, dental crowns, or even dental implants, we have it all!
We always ask our patients about how they feel when they get home and to let us know if they feel ok. In this case, Musthapha contacted us back with this amazing message:
I am happy to reply that I am very well and the Root canal work conducted was/is 1st class.
May I take a moment to thank ALL your staff especially Dr Wendy (lovely) and Dr Victoria (so nice) and the reception staff (forgive me for not remembering their names) but you have a great team working there and from beginning to the end I felt valued.
Thank you for everything and may I wish you and your team all the very best now and in the future.
Fond Regards

How to handle dry mouth? (Xerostomia) – Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry
Problems with Bad Breath (Halitosis)
We have talked before that a dry mouth (also known as xerostomia) from stress can lead to vulnerability of the enamel to bacteria and higher risk of cavities that will end up inroot canals and fillings. So what can you really do if you have this chronic condition?
There are some east tips and suggestions to follow. First, you need to stop eating snacks between meals and instead drink water to keep your mouth hydrated which will be both healthy for your teeth and also for your body. You should also use a soft toothbrush because if you damage your gums on a dry mouth it can lead to complications. Use regular fluoride paste and avoid gel toothpaste. If you can you could also use inter-dental toothbrushes right for the space between your teeth.
You should know there are Oral moisturizers also known as “artificial saliva” that can help you out with that. These are products that can moisture your mouth for a moment and you shouldn’t have a problem using them as much as you need. They can be swallowed like normal saliva, but they lack the enzymatic properties of real saliva. While it doesn’t require prescription, it can be a little tricky to find on regular drugstores so you should have better luck by asking your dentist or doctor if they know where to find it. Eat mineral-rich fruits and avoid coffee. Also, if you had radiation treatment in your head, neck or shoulders, that could give you the first signs of dry mouth and must tell your doctor as soon as you find out.

Recent dental studies suggest that the future ofdentistrylies on dental restoration treatments as an alternative for dental implants. Considering the wear, infections and accidents suffered by teeth throughout life, finding a way to regenerate new teeth would be a huge advance for dentistry. Understanding the operation of dental regeneration of alligators (one of the few animals who can regenerate their teeth) would be key to find ways to apply it to the human species.
Thus adult teeth that have been damaged due to consumption of acidic and sugary foods, those that have been lost by accidents or even teeth that have fallen because of periodontal disease may recover by creating new teeth. Future dentists could develop new methods for generating human teeth based on active stem cells. A study conducted by several Chinese laboratories found that certain dental structures can be generated by stem cells. This assumption means that we could regenerate dental tissue specific stem cells provided by the patient.
Although adult stem cells have been effectively used in various treatments related to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, much more research is still required to bring to fruition dental regeneration. This particular study concluded that stem cells from human urine containing enamel could be the key for such breakthrough.
One of the main challenges of regeneration is to provide dental structures that have long-term integrity. Dental implants are made of titanium so they provide a strong structural integrity and the new regenerated tissue would have to offer a similar strength. It might take a couple of decades before this can become a reality but we will do out best to offer you the most modern treatment available if it happens.

Magda came not long ago to have some affordable dentistry work done after she her sister-in-law recommended us. We feel honored to have people place their trust on our professional team of dentists in Cancun and we always strive to deliver them the best dental care available at affordable prices compared to practices in USA and Canada. Root canals in USA can reach over 2500 USD, that’s not the case here at our dental clinic.
Magda had also a wonderful time while she was getting her dental work done here. She loves it here specially because there are many things to do in Cancun, like going fishing, diving, snorkeling, etc. She also went to relax in the beach and Riviera Maya, Tulum, Isla Mujeres and more. She truly made the most of her vacation and saved thousands of dollars on her oral health while getting the best care. She had visited Cancun plenty of times but it wasn’t until now that she found out about our dental practice. “Wish I had known sooner!” she said in a video she recorded for us. She says we will be her dentist from now on.
She left us with this lovely message:
Love this place. Thank you to all the staff and doctors here that assisted me during my treatment. Wishing you all the best and god grant you all your dreams. Continue your wonderful work. Magda
Magda, it was a privilege to have you here. We hope everything is great back home and we look forward for your next visit. We hope other people will give dental tourism a chance with us, the dental implant and smile makeover experts.

Here in Cancun Cosmetic Dentistry we have helped cancer survivors with their dental care. If you or someone you love has just been diagnosed with cancer there are things you need to know about dental care during these difficult times.
You should know that radiation and chemotherapy can affect your mouth on some ways. They can cause sores and change factors on your mouth like the amount of saliva and sensitivity on your gums. It is very important that as soon as someone gets diagnosed to get a complete dental check with their dentists, as any problems or cavities might get worse during therapy. Dental cleanings must be performed to reduce the risk of gum infections from plaque affecting your blood.
During your treatment, only use toothbrushes with soft bristles and keep cleaning your teeth 2 to 3 times a day (one before going to sleep) and do it softly too. Avoid tooth pastes with strong flavors or whitening ingredients as these might be abrasive and irritate your mouth. Depending on your type of cancer, you should ask your doctor if you can floss softly once a day to dislodge any food debris.
Some people have reported loosing teeth because of their treatment. Dental implants might be the solution they are looking for to restore their smile. Mini implants are the most affordable entry-level teeth solution for a complete arch restoration, followed by All-on-6 and All-on-4, which are teeth mounted on a titanium screw retained bar over dental implants.

We will talk today about the average prices of dental treatments and how you can save up to 70% compared to other dental practices in USA and Canada. You can improve your smile or have a complete smile makeover for a fraction of the price you would pay back home with the help of our amazing professional dentists! Doctor German Arzate is the head doctor of our dental clinic and he leads a team of skilled and experienced doctors, having changed the life of thousands of patients over his career.
The most common question we have is how much is the average price of dental implants. There are many factors you need to take into account when you are trying to find out what would it cost you to get an implant tooth in USA. Usually it would need to check the individual values of each one of these: single dental implant, abutment/connector, crown materials, local anesthesia, sedation, extractions, location of the clinic, doctor’s honorariums, etc. So, on average, a single dental implant procedure would be around $3,000 USD.
Our dental implants with a standard porcelain crown is $1499 USD, with local anesthesia included. That’s it. If you are looking only for the implant (in case you want to get the abutment+crown back home) it would be $990 USD. Also, if you already got a dental implant in USA or Canada we might be able to provide you the abutment and crown for $700 USD, though we would need to know first what brand of dental implant you are using to see if our brands are compatible (the doctor must have given you an identification code for your implant). We use Nobel Biocare, Neodent, Zimmerman and MIS implant systems which have a certain level of compatibility between themselves, while some dentists in America don’t use this and prefer brands that make it difficult to replace or fix for other doctors by forcing the patient to only choose them and their brand. We will usually look for an high quality universal brand for your convenience. Even then, if you fall in this last kind of exclusive implants, we might be able to import said piece if you let us know with anticipation.
